RugStore: Test to find the pure silk rug
Simple tests can be performed in conforming real silk used in the rug.
Rubbing: Rub the rug with your open palm forcefully. If the rug is real silk you will sure to feel warmness, if it is artificial silk rug it remains normal without any changes.
Flame test: Take a thread from the rug. Burn the thread; observe the residue and smell of the smoke. The real silk on burning crinkle to black ball, the residue becomes crispy and it smell of burning hair, because silk is made of protein. Artificial silk on burning leave soft, dusty residue and it smells of burning paper as the artificial silk is made of cellulose.
Chemical test: This chemical test is conducted at room temperature. Mix 16 g copper sulfate solution in 150 cc of water and 8-10 g glycerin is added, and then caustic soda, mix the solution. If the silk is real it will get dissolve in the solution or else it remains same without any change.
