About Tibetan rugs: The rug weaving in Tibet is age old tradition as it was done mainly for domestic usage. The suppression of Tibetan nationalism by China in the year 1959, made Tibetans to flee to the neighboring countries. Knot counts vary from 30 to 100 knots per square inch with the majority approximating 48 knots per square inch. Tibetan rugs feature a unique and ancient knotting technique by using axis rod (warp divider) and gauge rod (needle).
